How I got started in product design

I began my career as a writer and editor and landed at The Motley Fool, where I fell in love with investing. I entered a year-long analyst training program there, diving headfirst into investing and finance. I passed Level I of the CFA Exam. 

Then I realized that by combining my storytelling abilities with that hard-won financial knowledge, I could help more people by making investing more engaging -- and sometimes even fun. I've worked in fintech UX ever since.

What I've been working on 

At T. Rowe Price, I help lead digital transformation, specifically reimagining the shopping experience for new and existing customers. T. Rowe Price has succeeded for 80 years in part by being conservative, so my team and I are careful to respect that while pushing for change.

It's exciting to see the impact our work has on customer outcomes, which then opens the way for more innovation. I work hard to tell T. Rowe's story to customers and sometimes even harder to advocate for user-centered, data-informed agile practices within the company.

What I'm curious about

I love the challenge of aligning voice and tone across many channels, and I'm interested in the complexity of doing so with voice user interfaces and augmented reality or virtual reality. 

With my background studying businesses as potential investments, I love putting together business cases for pursuing projects and using live-data prototypes to prove out ideas.

 

I am also very interested in how to scale design and content strategy within an agile framework.
